Over the years, we've all heard of the benefits of hair extensions. Many women are attracted to them because they believe it will increase their self-esteem, femininity etc.; many simply like the concept of long hair. But what happens if they don't get the results they wanted? Afterall, anything that needs to be glued or stuck in can’t be very good for our hair health, can it? It's a serious question that needs to be asked – do hair extensions ruin your hair? Well, let's find out. But before that, let’s understand the type of hair extensions that are available.
There is no limit to the range of hair extensions. The variety of hair extensions available is Fusion, Weaves, Microbeads, Weft, Tape-In, Clip-In, Halo, Ponytail, etc. Human hair or synthetic hair can be used to make these. Quality, duration of usage, simplicity of application (professional or at home), and the possibility for root and hair damage vary amongst them.
- Clip-in Extensions: You may easily add temporary hair extensions to your hair whenever you want by using clip-ins. They can be taken off at the end of the day, making them the safest for your hair.
- Tape-ins Extensions: As their name implies, these are smaller than clip-in extensions which are attached to your hair by first being taped together before being connected to the roots. They can last anywhere from four to eight weeks.
- Semi-Permanent Extensions: These hair extensions are attached to your hair using various adhesives, such as glue. One technique even involves melting the glue with a hot tool.
- Halo Extensions: They stay on the hair using a hidden wire and are not attached to it; instead, they are fashioned to be attached to the crown of your head.
- Bead/Weft Extensions: A professional attach bead/weft extensions to the head using a bead that clamps and sits flat to the head. They are designed from natural human hair.
- Sew-In Weaves Extensions: Given that they can't be removed, sew-in weaves are perhaps the most permanent approach to implementing hair extensions. Using a needle and thread, the weave is sewn into braids or cornrows.
